We are currently looking for an experienced Yard Supervisor to lead our Calgary Yard Operations team. Our Yard team is made up of Labourers, Equipment and Crane Operators, Liquid Transload Operators and a Maintenance Mechanic.

The Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day coaching & direction of these employees in the safe and productive yard performance in the transfer of various commodities from rail to trailing equipment or storage.

The Supervisor reports to the Manager Transload Operations and works closely with Safety, Fleet Repair, Dispatch and Customer Service team members.

Our Yard operates generally 5 days a week over 2 shifts. The Yard Supervisor works Monday to Friday 6 : 30 am to 3 : 00 pm and has a lead hand to oversee the afternoon shift.

Position Responsibilities :

• Coaching and directing all yard operations staff with a Safety 1st approach, by preparing shift assignments, providing support for difficult or new tasks, cross training staff, and reviewing maintenance of operating equipment and facilities, etc.
• Leading throughout the day shift and planning for the afternoon shift to effectively and safely load, offload, and inventory a variety of steel, liquid and dry bulk commodities with the use of an overhead crane, locomotives, loaders and forklifts to transfer products from rail to various types of trailing equipment.
• Coordinating and updating dispatch and office staff of work in progress and complete necessary documents.
• Providing input and ideas, as part of a team, with the Manager, Transload Operations to identify improvements in the operations and handling procedures including process, capital, and labour.
• Liaising with and assisting drivers and contractors on site to aid and respond to questions regarding trailers, dunnage, load securement, etc.
• Fostering a strong workplace culture to promote safety, people and best practices by integrating and identifying standard operating procedures, safety, training, human resources and other Kleysen programs, policies and procedures into the day-to-day Yard operations.

What We Look For :

Comprehensive knowledge of operational procedures related to various tasks in transloading, equipment operation, loaders / forklift, locomotive, crane, etc.

specific to yard operation and rail / truck operations.

• Working knowledge of the range of products handled at the facility (steel / lumber / etc.) is an asset.
• Effective leadership skills in effective communication and direction of work to employees and demonstrate ability to delegate and train shift crew.

Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams to collaborate and appreciate various priorities and deadlines.

• Strong training and commitment to Safety.
• Good work attitude and willingness to learn.
• Training and experience in forklift, loaders, locomotive and crane is a requirement and must be willing to maintain certification for various pieces of equipment (training paid for by Kleysen).
• Must be in good physical shape to assist yard staff as required, with an ability to lift up to 50 lbs and able to work in all weather conditions.
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work (no public transportation available)
• As this is a safety-sensitive position, candidates will be required to comply with our Controlled Substances policy (pre-employment / post-incident drug test is required)
