Overview

The Health Care Operations department of WorkSafeBC is looking for 1 Co-op Student, Payment Services to join our team to assist in the processing of accounts for all health care related expenses associated with claims.

This is an eight-month temporary opportunity start in January 2025.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond office with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.

What you'll do

On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.

During your first weeks, your manager will discuss with you the goals for your role and how to align them with the team's vision.

You will also be partnered with a mentor from your team, and together you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program designed to equip you for success.

Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization's mandate.

• Handle and process incoming invoices, clean and forward reimbursement requests from injured workers to the appropriate department.
• Assist in processing health care accounts for services and goods provided to injured workers
• Determine the validity of health care related charges via validation queues
• Support the review and streamlining of the workflow processes by gathering data, testing and validating current practices
• Prepare correspondence and communicate with claimants and other related parties when health care benefits are adjudicated
• Assist in identifying and correcting accounts incorrectly billed; calculate and process credits on accounts incorrectly paid

• Use strong analytical skills to review data and information.
• Demonstrate a high level of quality and accuracy.
• Communicate both in writing and verbally, to professionally interact with WorkSafeBC claimants, staff and health care providers.
• Demonstrate self-motivation and an ability to work with limited supervision.

Your background and experience

• Enrolled in a post-secondary program in accounting or business administration or arts programs
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office software suite (Excel, Word).
• Previous co-op or relevant work experience in an office environment preferred.
