Reporting to the DRU Facility Operations Team Lead, the DRU Facility Operator is responsible to perform tasks that support the successful start-up ( July 2021) and operation of the 50,000 bbl / d greenfield Diluent Recovery Unit (DRU) located near the Gibson Hardisty Terminal.

The position is responsible for carrying out activities to support safe and reliable operations as well as day to day maintenance, regulatory compliance, execution of maintenance and growth projects while ensuring the integrity of facility assets.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Works closely with Construction and Commissioning to identify operational readiness issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Participates in the development and review of site-specific procedures and training manuals.
  • Supports the safe and reliable operation of the DRU facility.
  • Conducts sampling and testing to verify facility is meeting product quality specifications.
  • Develops an understanding of the DRU facility process, operational parameters, and impact on product specification.
  • Familiarity with DCS HMI screens and controls of the DRU facility.
  • Conducts maintenance and repairs, equipment checks.
  • Plans and executes assigned maintenance expense and capital projects including minor facility modifications or upgrades, and piping and equipment integrity work.
  • Submits projects and ideas to the budget process for potential implementation for the improvement of the facility.
  • Identifies non-value-added expenses / costs and assist with elimination of waste in day-to-day operating costs.
  • Ensures all maintenance projects and work are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and compliant with all applicable regulations.
  • Provides hands-on assistance to maintenance personnel as required.

  • Manages the Gibson Energy’s Authorization to Work Program at their asset(s) and is aware of all work being performed in their respective location and identify any potential conflicts;

work observations, inspections and other.

  • Equipment operation, snow removal, grass cutting, supply offloading, yard maintenance.
  • Routine inspections include terminal inspections, truck inspection, pump inspection, tank inspection and mixer inspection.

Non-routine inspections include troubleshooting and valve issues.

  • Ensures to work with company Environmental & Regulatory Specialist to ensure all regulatory monitoring including groundwater, soil, and air is completed in a timely manner and meets all regulatory approval and provincial and federal requirements.
  • Executes all ground disturbance requirements, process calls, provides feedback and executes backfill supervision for third parties as required.
  • Provides emergency response, on-call support and relief coverage as required.
  • Promotes the Company’s strong safety culture by supporting EH&S related meetings, near miss, incident and compliance reporting and investigations.
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum FPHO or ABSA 4th Class Power Engineering certification. 3rd Class Power Engineering or Trades Certification is an asset.
  • Experience in operations or maintenance in support of crude oil processing or terminal and pipeline facilities. Preference will be made towards candidates with hot oil processing experience.
  • Will be required to participate in the Operator training program for the appropriate operations level.
  • Proficient in the use of PC’s and Microsoft Windows software, including Word and Excel.

Working Conditions and Physical requirements

  • 12 hours rotating day and night shifts.
  • Field based position with minimal travel to other operating sites or Calgary Head Office.
  • Work involves hands-on support of active operations and maintenance in an outdoor environment.
  • Must be available to support outside normal work hours and on-call emergency response.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces as well as climb ladders and stairs.
  • Standing for frequent periods.
  • Occasional bending and twisting is required as is prolonged neck positioning.
  • Occasional kneeling.
  • Frequent upper extremity movements (elbows, forearm, wrist, handgrip).
  • Lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Pushing, carrying, pulling up to 30lbs.
