For over 25 years, the Washington Community Market (Market) has been providing residents of the Downtown Eastside (DTES) with affordable groceries in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

This year the market is introducing a dedicated Grab & Go food section, and we are looking for a team-oriented and highly motivated, Food Service Clerk to join our team!

You are looking for a rewarding part-time position, surrounded by a supportive team and want to make a difference in the Downtown Eastside community by serving local residents delectable treats.

The Food Service Clerk reports directly to the Store Manager and is responsible for the Grab & Go Food Section at the Market and supports store clerk-related duties when necessary.

You will :

Perform a variety of duties according to Food Safety protocols including : Opening and closing procedures of the Grab & Go food station section of the Market, including sanitizing the kitchen equipment, dishes, utensils, counters, and other appliances as necessary.

Preparing hot beverages such as coffee and tea.Preparing food such as hot dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches, and ramen bowls, using standard formulas.

Track ingredient expiry dates and arrange their use accordingly.Weekly inventory.

  • Demonstrate outstanding customer service such as greeting customers, taking customers’ orders, and sharing menu knowledge.
  • Operate a Point of Sale (POS) system to accurately process customer orders and payments.
  • Support the market with store clerk-related duties during downtime.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Assistant and / or Store Manager as reasonably required.

You have :

  • High School Diploma
  • Food Handler Certification (required).
  • Previous food handling experience is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
