POSITION SUMMARY :

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

The AFL Instructor at YMCA of Northern Albertaassists in the delivery of services in assigned group fitness programs and services of the Workout Centre.

The Instructor will monitor and respond to the Member Connect Program, work on strategies to improve member’s experience, and instruct group fitness classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Builds relationships with staff, volunteers and members. Maintain consistent communication with staff, volunteers and members.

Knows and reviews all emergency procedures, Adult Fitness and Lifestyle standards and best practices; responds to situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures;

completes related reports or recommendations as required.

Ensures YMCA Service Standards for Adult Fitness and Lifestyle (Fitness Centre and Group Fitness) are consistently met (SAM Standards).

Responds to service challenges and customer complaints with possible solutions in a timely manner.

Deliver high quality services through excellent relationships with members, provide quality instruction in group fitness classes, be available after class to answer member questions, and build relationships.

Correct unsafe techniques and ensure safe and effective use of equipment by participants.

Ensure program schedule includes a variety of program times and options, and that the schedule is posted and is followed;

classes are starting and ending on time.

Create a personalized service to all member of the Workout Centre ensuring all questions and concerned are addressed in a timely manner.

Supports the department, branch and association in implementing and achieving goals.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE :

Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) Group Exercise Leadership Certifications, Can-Fit Pro, or related group certification is an asset.

Previous Experience with Group Fitness Instruction is an asset

Certifications : Standard First Aid & CPR-C

Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector check

Willing to obtain employer specific WHMIS certification within 30days of hire date

Physically perform all skills required of a Group Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer or Fitness Centre Monitor.

Familiar with Group Fitness and Fitness Centre Standards and Regulations for operating Adult Fitness and Lifestyle programs and services.
