The Position
Under the general direction of the Youth Wellness and Child Wellness Coordinators, with support and direction from the Wellness Centre Manager, the Youth Program Assistant is an opportunity to connect with the Nation’s children (ages 5 and up) in a recreational, cultural, and educational manner and provide positive mentorship to them.
The assistant will also collaborate, plan activities, and execute them with the other youth employees in the program. The Wellness Centre Program Assistant will be the primary contact point for their respective participant cohort.
This is an on-call position.
The Candidate :
- Collaborate directly with the Child Wellness Coordinator on activity plans and participant guidelines.
- Provide lead on guiding program safety plans in their participant cohort, including incident reporting.
- Collaborate with the Youth Wellness Coordinator, including understanding participants' goals, needs, and abilities to provide guidance & mentorship.
- Provide direct service programming to children during After-School programming, Pro D Day Camps, Spring Break Camp, and the Summer Fun Program, including leading the team in activity facilitation.
- Provide lead on program structure, including leading daily agendas.
- Ensure supplies and gear for the above program are organized for each activity.
- Be a caring mentor to the children in programming, which means listening to their needs, supporting them to complete activities, and ensuring safety measures are followed.
- Communicate with the Child Wellness Coordinator on a weekly or as-needed basis about any feedback, concerns, or requests for support.
- Attend team meetings as requested.
- Attend training as it relates to the position.
Qualifications :
- The minimum age requirement at the time of intake is 15 years.
- Must be willing and able to pass a criminal record check.
- First Aid Certification.
- Experience working with children in a recreation or education setting is an asset.
- Experience leading and facilitating child / youth programs is an asset.
- Must be available for work between Monday and Friday after school (3 : 00 PM to 6 : 00 PM), Pro D Days, Spring Break and Summer Break.
Some evenings and weekends may be required.
