The Direct Ship Logistics Specialist will manage and monitor the overall logistics process of Inbound containers and full trailers, of goods to our various customers, warehouses, stores and cross-dock / distribution centers for Digital Appliance Products.
The position will be responsible for supporting the order creation and maintenance process, conveyance tracking, alignment of lead-time requirements and successful delivery of goods within the parameters of the orders received from the customer, our standard lead times from point of origin, and our internal order management policies.
The overall goal of the position will be to provide excellent operational efficiency within the order management process for the purpose of minimizing loss, reduction / avoidance of extraneous logistics costs, while realizing the successful delivery of goods within the weekly expectation of forecasted planning and customer Requested Delivery Date.
Role and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Act as the SPOC (Single Point of Contact) for all Direct Ship enquiries, reporting, alignment of expectation and conveyance current location / real-time performance against Lead Time expectation) from both internal and external partners (e.
g. Supply Chain Management groups, Divisional Sales and Marketing, Customer receiving points, Freight Forwarders and carriers, Corporate Support groups, origin and factory).
- Maintain, as required, the internal system (SAP ERP) orders, customer data and lead time tables specific to Direct Ship Program, which may include :
- Customer Purchase Order and Sales Order mapping / maintenance.
- System data related to Customer Routing Requirements.
- TiHi and specialized pallet configuration data by each partner’s specification.
- Liaise with origin and factory points of contact to ensure 100% compliance with above requirements by each account and product group within the scope of Samsung Canada’s business model.
- Monitor and report in real time on current status of direct ship orders inbound to customer and relay information to all concerned parties as detailed in internal / external partner groups per above.
- Actively pursue cost-avoidance and reduction options within the Direct Shipping modalities and provide guidance on preferred carrier, Inter-modal routes, container yard handling, storage and delivery options among other key handling points from origin (Purchase Order point) and delivery (Final Mile to our business partners’ various locations), inclusive of demurrage, detention, pre-pull, rail charges, drayage and storage items.
- Manage Diversion Requests for inbound conveyance that needs to be re-aligned to our own distribution center receiving points as required.
- Review Inbound Standard Lead Times and work directly with our internal Logistics company on challenge resolution, opportunities for improvement, and maintenance of on-time / right quantity, while reducing Cost of Poor Quality.
- The role will be responsible for providing expertise and direction in the Inbound ERP and freight forwarder system usage outward to our internal customers as well, inclusive of training support and workshop / weekly meeting participation.
- Ad-hoc reporting and various duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications
Education :
- University-level related accreditation.
- Membership in good standing with an accredited supply chain / logistics designation or similar is preferred. (P.Log, CITT / CCLP or similar)
Knowledge :
- SAP / ERP competency required.
- Intermediate MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
- Professional working knowledge of Global Freight Forwarding and Inbound Logistics experience.
- Well-versed in Transportation Law, Incoterms and Inter-Modal usage in Canada.
- Experience in a relatable consumer market and SKU mix in Canada.
- Data retrieval and manipulation experience with demonstrable, verifiable output and report creation.
- Ability to provide & implement cost reduction methods, to keep year over year logistics cost low.
Experience :
- Minimum 3 years logistics experience working in freight forwarding, Inland and Ocean transportation environment.
- Freight forwarder management, negotiation, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Proven ability to understand / control / improve / avoid issues related to inbound and direct-shipped goods, including but not limited to :
- Negotiation skills / best practices leadership experience concerning reduction and avoidance of related inbound logistics costs (e.
g. demurrage, detention, pre-pull, rail charges, drayage and storage items), as well as associated costs within trailer-drop programs, container direct shipments and related customer-based cost avoidance while realizing revenue achievement versus target on a daily / weekly / monthly basis.
